Parking in Banff

With over four million tourists descending on Banff National Park every year, parking in a small mountain town like Banff can be a problem, particularly during peak season.

There is no charge for street parking and municipal parking lots in Banff, however there are time limits in most places to ensure a reasonable turnover of spaces. In residential areas, vehicles must be moved within 72 hours.

Banff's parking bylaws are strictly enforced, so make sure you check signs for parking restrictions and time limits before leaving your vehicle. Should you suffer the misfortune of being given a parking ticket, the fine can be paid at the Town Hall (110 Bear Street). Fines must be paid within fourteen days and there is a $10 discount on all time limit violation fines if paid within seven days.

For visitors staying in Banff, most hotels have on-site parking or can direct you to the nearest free public parking. Banff can be very cold in winter, and unless your hotel has underground parking, you will need to find an electrical cold weather hookup to plug your car in, should the temperature fall below -15°C. It is often a condition of car rental agreements that hookups are used in such conditions to prevent engine damage.

The town provides designated parking lots for RVs on Buffalo Street, Wolf Street, and Compound Road at the north east end of Banff Avenue.
