Ski Norquay, BanffSki Norquay has billed itself in the past as 'Banff's Best Kept Secret', and it's true. Many of Banff's less informed visitors seem to overlook the world-class skiing just a ten minute drive from Banff on Mount Norquay, choosing to go further afield to Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. Ski Norquay offers everything from beginner slopes to double black diamond, all set against the awesome scenery of Banff National Park. Although it has earned a reputation among experienced skiers for its steep and challenging terrain, the majority of terrain at Norquay is intermediate, so there is plenty here to satisfy all ability levels. Having a more intimate feel to it than the bigger local resorts, at Norquay the lift tickets are cheaper, lift lines are shorter, and it is family friendly with a good ski school, uncrowded beginner slopes, and kid's daycare facilities. It is also the only ski hill in the Bow Valley to offer night skiing (Fridays 5pm - 9pm, January to April), and has the only lit terrain park, featuring a variety of hits, rails, tabletops and more for snowboarders. Ski Norquay is also unique in offering skiers and boarders the flexibility of paying by the hour. The Ski Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine tri-area lift ticket can be used at Ski Norquay, which also includes one free night-skiing session. Check SkiBig3 for more details. Shuttle transportation is available from many hotel locations in downtown Banff (daily) and from the village of Lake Louise (Tuesdays and Saturdays only). There is also a Friday night ski shuttle service from Banff. Norquay's ski season runs from around mid November through to early April.
