Parks Canada, Banff

Parks Canada, Banff
Parks Canada is an agency of the Government of Canada that is mandated to protect and present nationally significant examples of Canada's natural and cultural heritage. It oversees 38 national parks and national park reserves, two national marine conservation areas, one national landmark, and 157 national historic sites.

Canada’s national parks system is intended to protect representative examples of the country’s distinct terrestrial areas and at the same time, encouraging public understanding and an enjoyment of the parks, in ways that protect them for future generations to experience in the same way.

Parks Canada oversees the management of the Banff National Park of Canada, Canada's oldest national park, and aims to ensure that, as one of the world's most visited national parks, its ecological integrity is preserved. The Agency also administers the Banff Park Museum National Historic Site of Canada, the Cave and Basin National Historic Site of Canada, and the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station National Historic Site of Canada.

Parks Canada does not have direct responsibility for managing Banff townsite itself, as the Town of Banff has been self governed since 1990.
